Highlights from KBIS

The 2014 KBIS show was held this week in sunny (although not too warm!) Las Vegas. Attendees from all over the world came to preview the best of the best when it comes to new products in the kitchen and bath industry. Brand leaders in cabinetry, faucets, bath suites, appliances, tile, lighting and so much more showed off exciting and inspirational trends for two of the most important rooms in your home.

I was impressed by how technology is seamless integrated into fixtures and appliances, offering improved operation and function. Dacor’s new wall-mounted oven is equipped with a digital screen that connects to any smart phone or tablet. Luxury faucet brand Brizo offers SmartTouch™ Technology. Touch the faucet anywhere to activate it on or off. If your kid forgets to turn off the bathroom faucet, an automatic shut off system avoids water waste. On the design end of things, forget plain white porcelain bath sinks. Manufacturers have explored a dazzling array of shapes, materials, textures, colors and finishes to make the sink the focal point in the bathroom.

Other interesting trends: There’s a new spin on open living as rooms accommodate changing lifestyles. Combining space saving necessities with comfort, function and style – the living room has moved into the kitchen. Plush sofas and upholstered benches keep company with the kitchen table and island counter top, as seen at the KraftMaid Cabinetry booth.

Beautiful faucet and sink display at Brizo.

Iridescent tile backsplash with rustic wood - Merillat Cabinetry.

A Merillat Classic® cabinet in a black finish.

Design at every corner. Love this turned leg detail - Merillat Cabinetry.

Contrasting wood color adds interest to the corner of this contemporary cabinet style - Merillat Cabinetry.

A bold combination of materials for a sharp modern look: Studded details, copper metallic laminate, clear plastic, white upholstery - Merillat Cabinetry.

A fun retro kitchen display at the Merillat booth encouraged attendee participation. You could have your picture taken in the booth by donning and apron and posing as a 50s house wife.

Weathered wood flooring was seen on floors, cabinets, and doors.

Cozying up to the marble counter top, studded bar chairs at Merillat Cabinetry.

Under cabinet lighting creates drama on this floating shelf - Merillat Cabinetry.

Dark cabinets, open shelves, maintain the openness of this kitchen, while a tiled back splash and warm colors keep it cozy.
